Obituary for William J. Dorsa

William J. Dorsa
William "Bill" Joseph Dorsa, 83, passed away peacefully on Oct. 25th, 2018 at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, NJ after spending his final days surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born March 16, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest of 4 children. He would move with his family a few years later to Jersey City, NJ where he graduated from William L. Dickinson High School.

Bill served his country faithfully and honorably in the United States Army. He met his beautiful young bride, Joan Dorsa, at a local dance and after just one look he proclaimed to his best friend "that is the girl I'm going to marry". This year they celebrated 60 years of marriage, and together they created a large, loving family.

In his career, Bill would master the use of his words as well as his hands - finding success as both a salesman and as a machinist. Bill loved many various activities whether it be taking a trip to Atlantic City, or just spending time planting flowers in his garden. More than anything though, Bill loved to spend time laughing and telling stories with his family and friends.

Bill will be truly missed and is survived by his loving wife, Joan Dorsa; brother Vincent and Lee Dorsa, brother Eugene and Joan Dorsa, sisters Patricia Dorsa and Ruth Burke; daughter Cathleen and Robert Locke, son James and Ellen Dorsa, son William and Linda Dorsa, son Michael Granat; grandchildren Jessica and Spencer Thein, Brittany and Richard Bayer, Robert and Anna Locke, Bridget Dorsa, James and Ashley Dorsa, Michael and Jordan Dorsa, Elizabeth Dorsa, Laura Dorsa and Nick Alimurat; great-grandchildren Savannah, Iris, Henry, and Stella, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Genevieve Dorsa as well as his daughter, Melissa Granat.

Bill will be reposing at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home 1735 Route 35, Middletown, NJ 07748 on Friday October 26, 2018 from 4 – 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday October 27, 2018 at 9:30am at St. Catherine Laboure in Middletown, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be welcomed to the Lupus Foundation of America.
