Obituary for Joseph Gravish

Joseph  Gravish
Joseph C. Gravish, 64, of Port Monmouth passed away on October 18th at JFK Hospital in Edison surrounded by family. Joseph and his family lived in Port Monmouth for 9 years until 2012. After Hurricane Sandy, Joseph moved to Iselin where he resided until his death. Joseph grew up in Colonia and previously lived in Highlands. Joseph was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Highlands.

Joseph grew up in a small Polish and Italian family in which the love of family was very important to him. Joseph married the love of his life, Eileen, in 1982 and spent almost 30 happy years together. In 2011, Eileen passed away after a valiant battle with cancer. Joseph and Eileen had one daughter, Nicole, in which they flourished all of their love upon. Family and his time with them was one of the most important things in his life.

Joseph worked with his father as an automotive mechanic at Chet’s Service in Carteret for over 30 years. He also worked as a multimedia technician at Verizon before retiring in 2012. Joseph was known as a very talented musician in which he was a guitarist in multiple bands throughout his life. Joseph also had a love of Santana and Rocky in which his daughter, Nicole, recently brought him to see Santana in concert and Rocky the musical.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Eileen, and his father, Chester. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole; his mother, Patricia; his brother, Richard; and his step-mother, Shirley.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 22nd, from 4-8 PM at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, 1735 Rt. 35, Middletown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 23rd, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 141 Navesink Avenue, Highlands.
